Temple Of Heaven

This is one of many temples inside the walls at the Temple of Heaven.

The whole place is built using circles. The temples are circles, the walls are a series of circles, the designs on the buildings use a lot of circles. The circle was considered a symbol of Heaven because they saw the sky as a circle. The square was considered a symbol of Earth because of the four directions. So the image of a circle inside a square was representative of heaven meeting earth.

What surprised me the most was that after you pass through the second wall there is a park that goes all the way around the other areas that contain the temples. Parks are free for Senior citizens in China and are quite the hopping place early in the morning. These lady's drumming in the park was just one of the many entertaining activities going on the morning we were there.
