Center of Asia

So my roommate and I took her parents to the Center of Asia.

Our local friend said it was easy to get there, just grab a bus from town.

Apparently it only takes 30 minutes ...

to get to the middle of no where!

There are something like 49 countries in the Continent of Asia,
and there were signs for each one along the path.

We spent some time being silly,
taking pictures,
mimicking signs,

pretending to be Laura Croft!

Even reminisced about places I have been.

But when we realized how far away the actual 'center' was we got a little concerned.
So we sped up and made it a little further along.

Here is the only other person we had seen so far in our almost hour long miniture hike in the blazing sun!

We made it to a gate and had to pay to go further in towards the monument.

On our way further in towards the long trip to the 'center' we passed 49 more sculptures for all the countries.
They were interesting ...
we passed by rather quickly.
And now for something completely different!
Sheep!
Finally we can see the monument ahead surrounded buy large blocks for all the countries.

Ta da! The geographical center of Asia.
It was a cool looking monument.

One of the nicer tourist spots in the area, other than the middle-of-nowhere factor!

My hand at the CENTER!

Had to get my pic taken at the China block.
These are 4 carved lions made by the guy that lived at the center and took care of it until money was raised to put up the monument. He made one lion for each direction.
So after we took some pics we turned to head back to the bus stop and realized we were quickly run out of time to make the last bus back! So we did a little hitchhiking with some nice people who took us down to the bus stop just in time to hold the bus so we could get on. It was quite the exciting day!
